Day 02: Favorite Male Lead Character

For the people that know me, this should be a no brainer answer. If you’re my friend and you got it wrong…….   😉 My Favorite Male Lead Character of ALL time, be it may a drama or movie of ANY language, is…

Lim Ju Hwan’s PARK KYU in Tamra Island

U주 – Loveland

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Because you are hilarious with your obsession with your chamber pot.

Because of your amused half-smile..

Because of your loving stare that makes me melt into a puddle of liquid marshmallows..

Because of your smile upon seeing her smiling too..

Just because… I love seeing a happy Park Kyu.

A wonderful friend wrote THE perfect answer to Day 02 of the KDrama Challenge. I wholeheartedly agree to every word of it. And as some of you may know already.. I tend to get incoherent whenever I talk about how awesome Park Kyu is or how much I just love Lim Ju Hwan. So.. since Kender already wrote this great article regarding our Favorite Male Lead Character, I’ll just share it here.

Kender’s Favorite Male Lead Character.

Park Kyu. PARK KYU.

Tamra the Island’s leading man. He is perfection. To say that I am in love with him is no exaggeration; I would marry him in an instant if I ever found him in real life. If asked to choose between Kang Dong-won and Park Kyu, I would be seriously, horribly torn and would need several days to think about it.

He’s like Mr. Darcy, only funnier, more proactive, and more badass. And Korean, but..yeah.

(This is so late because it’s difficult to put my adoration of him into words. And there’s a shitton of picspam beneath the cut.)

Park Kyu even has his own fanclub, Team Park Kyu. You may think it excessive, but I swear, watch Tamra and you’ll be clamoring to join. If you aren’t completely in love with him by the 7th or 8th episode (at the LATEST, most people love him by ep 4 or 5), there’s something seriously wrong with you and you need your head examined. I love Park Kyu by the end of episode 6.

Tall, good-looking, a bit arrogant, and sent to a place 180 degrees different from what’s he’s used to and forced to live amongst *gasp* COMMONERS.

Intelligent and morally upright, he loves rules and the order of society, but isn’t so rigid as to be inflexible.

Against his better judgement, he falls head over heels for the immature daughter of the family with whom he lives, but since he knows she’s fallen for the foreigner shipwrecked on Tamra (whom, by the way, should be killed by law) he steps back. And oh boy.. he did in so many ways break my heart with his love for Beojin. His heartbreak is just palpable.

Oh, and did I mention he’s a cop? Yeah, a Joseon-era detective. Hawwwwwt. RAWR!!

Lim Joo-hwan as Park Kyu must be seen to be believed. He IS Park Kyu. There was never a moment throughout the entire drama where I thought, “Wow, Lim Joo-hwan is doing quite well.” Instead, my mind was filled with Park Kyu, with imagining what was going through his head and aching for him when he was in pain. His love for the brainless little Beo-jin (who’s adorable, she really is) is both wondrous and heartbreaking to watch.

Buckets and buckets of tears on this episode. I can’t breathe watching Park Kyu’s heart shattering into a million pieces. His love for Beojin cannot be compared.

Even if the rest of the drama sucked, I would recommend watching Tamra just for Park Kyu. Luckily the show is pretty damn awesome anyway, so take it as a bonus.

Why are you just sitting here? GO WATCH TAMRA.

Just remember: Park Kyu is communal property, but Lim Joo-hwan belongs to my friend. 아싸!!

Thank you Kender!!!!! Such a beautiful words in tribute to a truly remarkable and unforgettable KDrama Hero. He is also my favorite male lead character of ALL TIME. Seriously.. watching drama the first captivated me with Park Kyu’s persona, but it’s Lim Ju Hwan’s perfect portrayal of the righteous, arrogant, but soft-hearted exile in disguise that have me loving everything about Tamra Island.

He is my answer to Day o2 of the KDrama Challenge. PARK KYU. And I am proud to belong to TEAM PARK KYU! 만세!!

Can you really not love Park Kyu after seeing his smile? I dare you not to.

Oh Hoh! Give me five, fellow Team Park Kyu. I went crazy over him from the moment I watched Episode 1. Hubby is getting very irritated because I’m still watching Tamra over and over again just for the sake of seeing his smiles and tears. Don’t miss the 21 episode version. There’s so much more of him in that. 🙂

Hmm… I am not sure where you can watch the 21 episode version of Tamra online. You can try viki or dramafever or dramcrazy.net, those sites have an extensive list of Kdramas. Thank you that you like Team Park Kyu as well. Actually, it’s a name that was created by fans over at Dramabeans about 2 years ago when the show was first broadcasted at MBC.

Basically, Team Park Kyu is what we call the group of people over at Dramabeans that love and support Lim Ju Hwan and PArk Kyu character from Tamra Island. It’s like an unofficial fanclub mostly among the international fans of the actor and drama. Team Park Kyu was mostly prominent at Dramabeans because the lovely folks there were the ones who first coined that term, Anybody who loves Park Kyu or Lim JuHwan, just needs to make a shout out “TEAM PARK KYU!” whenever they see a post about him. It’s become a tradition and it’s been that way for the past 2 years. I might be creating a fan page for Team Park Kyu on facebook soon, I am still thinking about it. If I do create one, I will post a link here. I do hope you support it and “like” it!

Hi, Xiaosxin, if you want to creat Team Park Kyu on facebook, I think we should creat it on Im Ju Hwan fanpage. If you still keep that intention now, please tell me. I want we join only one fanpage. That will help our fanpage have more fans.

“Team Park Kyu” is actually what my friends created as a name for fans of Lim Ju Hwan. It all started back in 2009 when Tamra Island first aired in Korea. My friends are talking/discussing about the drama on Dramabeans and from then on.. it just spread and the fan community on the website just kept it. It’s not really an official fanclub of Park Kyu, we only give a shout out to “Team Park Kyu” whenever his character or Lim Ju Hwan is mentioned in any article/discussion or post on that website. It’s fun, actually. For the facebook page, feel free to create one on Facebook within the Im Ju Hwan fanpage, but please credit the fan community of Dramabeans.com for coining those words. Thank you!
